Articles about IQ

What research says about IQ, in plain language and with sources you can check.

• Can you increase your IQ?Partly, yes. Schooling has the strongest evidence. Brain-training programs have much weaker support.
• How does IQ relate to job performance?Cognitive ability does predict job performance, but more modestly than older research suggested.
• Does IQ predict income and success?Long-term studies find a link. It is strongest for education, weaker for occupation and weaker still for income.
• Does IQ make you more popular with your peers? Not in any simple way. There is less direct research than you might expect, and social understanding and behaviour seem to matter a great deal.
• Does IQ change with age?Your position relative to others of your age tends to be fairly stable, though not fixed. Abilities themselves do change over life.
